چکیده

Background Thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) disease is an often asymptomatic, insidious process that includes structural aortic changes, dilation, and eventually causes death. Aneurysm prevalence exceeds 4% and is the 15th leading cause of death in the US. TAA disease is associated with congenital and acquired defects in the aortic wall including elastin derangements, increased collagen, glycosaminolycan/proteoglycan accumulation, and loss of smooth muscle cells. We aim to investigate

Mycotic aortic aneurysm as a postsurgical complication: report of a case and review of the literature

Mycotic aneurysms are localized and irreversible dilatations of the arteries caused by weakening and damaging the arterial wall by an invasive organism establishing infective arteritis. Mycotic aneurysm of the thoracic aorta is a rare event; however, it can be fatal if not diagnosed early or not treated appropriately. Clinical findings are usually nonspecific; however, c...

Aortic Valve replacement with Reduction Aortoplasty with Mesh Prosthesis in 75 years old with Sever aortic Regurgitation with Aortic Aneurysm

Although classic and standard procedure for patients with ascending Aorta aneurysm with Sever aortic Regurgitation is Bentall surgery but in some selected cases this complex surgery was not performed with different reason like advanced age and coexisting comorbidity involving renal and hepatic and lung Function. In our cases 75 years old man with chronic renal failure ( Cr= 3.2 ) who was known ...

Drug Therapy for Small Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Dear Editor,Abdominal aortic aneurysm is often asymptomatic, less recognized, and causes considerable mortality and morbidity, if missed. The incidence varies from country to country and the occurrence is influenced by modifiable (smoking, coronary heart disease, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and prolonged steroid therapy) and non-modifiable risk factors (increasing age, male gender, and positive...

Quantification of abdominal aortic aneurysm wall enhancement with dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI: feasibility, reproducibility, and initial experience.

PURPOSE To investigate the feasibility and reproducibility of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) to quantify abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) vessel wall enhancement dynamics which may reflect the amount of wall microvasculature. AAA vessel wall microvasculature has been linked with aneurysm progression and rupture. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty patients with AAA underwent DCE-MRI at 1.5 T...

Assessment of elastin deficit in a Marfan mouse aneurysm model using an elastin-specific magnetic resonance imaging contrast agent.

BACKGROUND Ascending aortic dissection and rupture remain a life-threatening complication in patients with Marfan syndrome. The extracellular matrix provides strength and elastic recoil to the aortic wall, thereby preventing radial expansion. We have previously shown that ascending aortic aneurysm formation in Marfan mice (Fbn1(C1039G/+)) is associated with decreased aortic wall elastogenesis a...
